Do you drink coffee, tea, or red wine? The food we eat day to day, as well as smoking, can stain our teeth and make them appear dull. And some of us simply have a darker shade of teeth by nature. Our professional whitening treatment at Better Dental is very effective in brightening up your smile up to 8 shades whiter!

Choose dental professionals to whiten your teeth

DIY "over the counter" and "over the internet" options are gaining in popularity and beauticians and other unqualified professions are offering teeth whitening services. Unfortunately, teeth whitening this way is at best ineffective as the concentrations are too low to achieve a good result. Even worse, whitening treatments being conducted in the wrong hands can be dangerous and leave your teeth damaged and your gums chemically burned.

Teeth whitening needs to be supervised and performed by a dental professional as it is a medical treatment. Strong chemicals are involved that are only safe when administered correctly, with a prior assessment of the teeth and their suitability and extensive dental and medical knowledge from our oral therapist and dentists. This way you are sure to achieve the best results quickly and safely.

Professional teeth whitening at Better Dental

Our dentists will initially assess the colour of your teeth and check your teeth thoroughly. A hygiene appointment with our oral therapist before the tooth bleaching can prepare your teeth to make the tooth whitening even more effective. We take photographs before and after the bleaching process to show you the results. We whiten your teeth through a well-proven bleaching process.

If your big day is just around the corner, give us a call and we will do our best to squeeze you in as soon as possible. Whitening your teeth can be done within an hour, though we will need to see you for a check-up first. The whole process will take less than two hours and can be done on the same day.

The sooner you call, the sooner we can get you in!

Your teeth are as individual as you and depending on your anatomy, some teeth bleach more than others. Typically we can achieve up to 8 shades whiter!

Most people mean the same thing by it, and this is why we use it interchangeably here. Technically, "bleaching" is the process of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide breaking down, seeping into the tooth, and whitening the tooth colour inside the tooth. "Tooth whitening" can also mean stain removal on the outside of the tooth surface, which we always do before any dental tooth bleaching anyway.

Under professional supervision we can minimise any risks to rare very minor gum irritations and tooth sensitivity that are both easy to prevent resolve within 24 hours of stopping the use of the whitening product. Bleaching treatments are not recommended for young patients under 18 years or for pregnant or breast-feeding women.

Occasional (6-12 months) touch-ups with at home bleaching gel available at Better Dental will keep your teeth looking great. Don't forget your 6-monthly hygiene appointments to remove any staining on your teeth from food stains, as well as maintaining good oral hygiene habits at home.

Good quality whitening toothpastes polish off the staining on your teeth from coffee, tea and other staining foods, however, they cannot change the actual colour of your teeth. Even if they contain hydrogen peroxide, often the concentration is too low and the time on the tooth too fleeting to actually get measurable results.

Some whitening toothpastes contain a chemical called blue covarine. It sticks to the tooth surface and creates an optical illusion that the tooth appears less yellow. Others can make your teeth sensitive or have polishing particles that can be too abrasive.

If you want to use a whitening toothpaste, use it occasionally, but we do not recommend using them as a daily toothpaste.
